Dr Mi Tian is a Lecturer in Low Carbon Engineering in the Engineering department at the University of Exeter. She is joining CFCM with a wealth of experience in low carbon research, data collection and analysis, and hydrogen energy.
Dr Tian’s research interests lie in:
- Green synthesis of nanoporous materials, including porous polymer, porous carbon and MOFs;
- Neutron scattering for characterisation of hydrogen materials;
- Hydrogen storage and transportation;
- Hydrogen and deuterium separation.
Dr Tian has been significantly contributing to the development of porous polymer composite for on-board hydrogen system, which has a direct impact on light-weighted vehicle and low carbon economy.
She has been leading the research on neutron scattering technique for hydrogen energy materials, which provides the fundamental properties of hydrogen and hence leads to novel hydrogen material design. Dr Tian received the Ede & Ravenscroft Prize in 2019 and was recognised as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering in 2020.

he is a full member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3). and an associate member of the IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers).
